  • Lincoln Registry

There's a new registry for Lincolns and Lincoln Continentals. It is part of the blogs on this web site.

This registry is for 1980 and older Lincolns and Lincoln Continentals. It does not matter if they exist or not; you may have an old title or window sticker for instance. You may also document Mark II Continentals.

You may browse and comment on the entries and subscribe to the blog.

You may submit 1980 and older Lincolns to the registry, too. Please supply the following information
    - VIN
    - data plate codes if possible
    - picture if possible, at 72-100 dpi
    - location of the Lincoln (i.e., "Pennsylvania" or "Los Angeles", precise location is not needed)
Send information to lincoln@lovefords.org Make sure to state the subject clearly "Lincoln". Blank subject boxes will not be delivered.

The above picture is from a much-circulated advertisement for 1961 Lincoln Continentals. The car in it is probably one of the very first built in fact it may even have been a pre-production car that came from the Allen Park Pilot plant. The location is the main entrance of Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn. This is the spot where there is sort of a semi-circular gently-sloping ramp to the main level, facing in the general direction of I-94.

The Continental Mark II was made at the same plant. This is the same facade as the picture above. The plant sees limited use today.

What is the building being used for today?

It's still Ford's plant for pilot programs. They set up sections of assembly lines and test them for function before putting them into operation.

Re: the location of the yellow 1961 Lincoln, that was photographed at the main entrance of Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, not the Allen Park plant. I cropped off most of the picture but when viewed in its entirety you can see a lot more of the building and the portico.

What I meant to impart was that this yellow Lincoln may very well have been produced at Allen Park, which did become the "pilot" plant after being used for Continental Mark II production. Allen Park is not much more than a stone's throw from WHQ in Dearborn, and like WHQ is also relatively close to I-94.

Thanks John for bringing things up to date. Hard to believe that the car is yellow, must the lights overhead.

Headquarters faces Michigan Avenue, I believe, not I-94. Can you post that whole picture.Edsels were built at the Pilot Plant after the Mark II.

Yes it does technically "face" Michigan avenue, that is the closest street, but what I meant to imply was that I-94 was in the same general direction, to explain it more accurately for those who can't place Michigan Avenue, I thought that I-94 was an easier-to-locate artery for the out-of-towners.

The Pilot Plant did become Edsel headquarters, but Edsels were not actually built there in mass production... that was Somerville, Louisville, San Jose, Wayne, Mahwah, and Los Angeles.

      I stand corrected.

Yes, it was the Edsel Division headquarters. It faces I-94, but the entrance is on Oakwood Blvd. I was there 2 years ago.
